The Furuno BR1000 BNWAS is a IMO-compliant Bridge Navigational Watch Alarm System, whose function is required on all IMO vessels (regulation MSC.128(75)). July 2012 was the primary fitting date for most vessels (existing passenger and cargo vessels of 3000+ GT).

Basically, BNWAS is a monitoring and alarm / alert system activated on the bridge, navigator staterooms, and living quarters, if it senses inactivity on the bridge for a predetermined period of time.

The Furuno BR1000 BNWAS monitors the watch officer’s presence through watch safety system functions. At pre-set intervals, a watch officer is required to press a Timer Reset Button or to operate navigation equipment (i.e.: ECDIS, Radar, etc.). If the officer fails to carry out any of the tasks, visual and audible alarms ensue in the wheelhouse. If no response, the BR1000 transfers the alarms to other sections of the vessel to inform backup officers.

Three operational modes are available: One-Man, Bridge Attended and Harbor Mode. The Processor Unit has 48 ports to interface the equipment onboard and watches their alarm status plus 7 ports for the operator’s presence inputs. Up to 14 Cabin Panels can be installed on a ship for notification.

The BR-1000 offers 3 operation modes: One-man, Bridge Attended and Harbour. In One-Man operation mode, both bridge alarm system and watch safety system work. In Bridge Attended mode, visual and audible alarm will be generated in the wheelhouse, but the alarm will not transferred to the Cabin Panels. In Harbour mode, visual alarm will be activated only on the Bridge Panel in the wheelhouse, not be transferred to the Cabin Panels. The BR-1000 meets the IMO MSC. 128(75). The Processor Unit has total of 48 ports to interface the equipment onboard and watches their alarm status. It also has 7 ports for the operator’s presence inputs. Watertight Timer Reset Panel can also be selected (optional supply). Up to 14 Cabin Panels can be installed on a ship.
