The Lars Thrane LT-3100 Iridium Communications System is a maritime satellite communication terminal. The LT-3100 system is designed for the professional market (deep sea, fishing, and workboats), but can also be used for the leisure market. The LT-3100 system meets all standards and certification requirements needed for worldwide maritime satellite communication equipment, utilizing the Iridium satellite network.
The LT-3100 system has voice and data capabilities with 100% global coverage provided by the Iridium® Communications Network. The LT-3100 system consists of a control unit, antenna unit, handset and cradle. A single coaxial cable connects the control unit with the antenna unit. Using a 500m LMR400 Cable at 24VDC, this provides separation between the units, and gives freedom to mount the antenna unit in the best possible location, with free line of sight to the satellites.
In 2018, the IMO’s Maritime Safety Committee (MSC) recognized Iridium as a provider of GMDSS satellite services. As of early 2020, the following GMDSS services: Distress Alert, Safety Voice, and Maritime Safety Information (MSI), will be available via the Lars Thrane’s LT-3100S GMDSS* System.
